Dinacharya (Daily Self-Care Routine)

By Rippan Sandhu

What is Dinacharya? Dinacharya is based on the philosophy that we run on a biological clock dictated by the patterns of the sun and the moon; different times of day adhere to different types of energy. These energies, known as doshas, connect the body and the mind in functionality.

If you’re not sure of your dosha, take our test here.

The Ayurveda practice of Dinacharya, or “law of nature,” consists of daily and seasonal self-care routines, which provide structure for instilling balance and establishing cohesiveness in the physical, mental, and emotional bodies.

A daily routine is absolutely necessary to bring radical change in body, mind, and consciousness. Routine helps to establish balance in one's constitution. It also regularizes a person's biological clock, aids digestion, absorption and assimilation, and generates self-esteem, discipline, peace, happiness, and longevity. Not to mention being one of the best ways we know to combat stress

If you’re new to the practice of Dinacharyga as part of your routine, here’s one of our favourite introductions by world-renowned Ayurveda Dr S Ajit.

As explained in the video above, the term Wellbeing is used often and sometimes misunderstood.

For example:
You may think you’ve achieved wellness if you suffer from asthma and your inhaler masks the symptoms. Or equate wellness to weight loss where with the use of diet pills helps you reach your ‘ideal weight’. Perhaps they run three kilometres every day or only eat organic foods.

Still we suffer mental, physical, emotion ailments. Why?

The ancient science of Ayurveda which has given us richness of wellness in such a perfect way that if we follow the 5,000 year old philosophy we can achieve this state without much effort hinges on following the daily and seasonal routines. Incorporating these routines is the key of wellness.

Understanding how and why you follow these Dinacharya routines you might not need to use any of the medicines some think are the solution to wellness.

Day to day wear and tear affects our physical and emotional body. Having our body in a constant balanced state gives us the ability to flush out the toxins and cope with wear and tear, rather than have those toxics accumulate.

Factors causing these imbalances are related to our lifestyle, our diet, our environment and our own state of mind. If all these factors are not compatible they are bound to build toxins. Dinacharya as part of your daily and seasonal lifestyle work to keep us in a balanced state.

As Dr S Ajit states, “the power of daily and seasonal routine is the key of wellness, and we all should follow them, and live more healthy life at a mental, physical and emotional level.”

At Spa Ayurda we walk the walk and talk the talk. Practicing what we preach and achieving perfect balance in our own lives is critical. In following Dinacharya routines both seasonal and daily we embrace our own wellness which we believe effects those we work with.
