A Letter from Dr. S. Ajit - Spring Is Nature's Reset
Sep 01, 2026
An invitation to pay attention - because the people who feel best in summer are often the ones who begin in spring.
Dear Friend,
Every year, around the beginning of September, I notice a shift in the people who come to see me.
Many have been carrying something through winter: a heaviness, a slowness, a feeling that their bodies have not quite returned to their usual rhythm. Some have lived with it for long enough that they have started to accept it as normal.
But the change of season gives us an opportunity to pay attention again.
Spring / Vasanta - An Important Transition
In Ayurveda, spring - Vasanta - is an important transition. After months of cold and stillness, nature begins to move again. The days become longer, the temperature changes, and what has accumulated through winter begins to shift.
Ayurveda teaches us that we are the microcosm of the macrocosm. We are not separate from what is happening around us. As nature changes, we change too. This is why Ayurveda does not expect us to eat, live and care for ourselves in exactly the same way throughout the year.
What I have observed over many years of practice is that the people who feel best in summer are often not the ones who wait for summer to take care of themselves.
They begin in spring.
So this September, I would like to offer you a simple invitation:
"Pay attention to what your body is telling you now."
What Is Your Body Telling You?
Are you waking rested, or still wanting more sleep?
Is your digestion regular and comfortable, or does it feel heavier or more sluggish?
Does your mind feel clear, or are you finding it harder to concentrate?
And when you first wake in the morning, what does your tongue look like?
These may seem like small observations, but the body is communicating with us all the time. Ayurveda teaches us to notice these signals rather than waiting until they become louder.
At Ayurda, we call this Body Literacy - learning to read your own body with greater awareness and understanding.
That is what I would like us to explore together this September.
Begin Tomorrow Morning
Tomorrow morning, before you brush your teeth or drink anything, take a moment to look at your tongue.
Notice its colour. Is there a coating? Is it thin or thick? Is the tongue dry or moist? You do not need to diagnose anything. Simply observe.
Your tongue is one of the places Ayurveda has traditionally looked for clues about digestion and the body's internal state.
For now, noticing is enough.
Over the coming weeks, I will share more about what these everyday signs can tell us - beginning with the tongue, digestion, and the simple morning practices Ayurveda has used for generations.
Spring does not require us to suddenly change everything.
Sometimes the most useful place to begin is simply to pay attention.
I wish you a healthy and vital spring.
