Detail

In Ayurvedic tradition, sesame oil holds a place of high esteem as a primary base for therapeutic massage and body care. Its naturally warming, heavy, and unctuous qualities are considered the ideal counterbalance to the dry, light, cold nature of daily modern stress.

Black sesame is particularly valued, and when cold-pressed, it retains its natural profile of nourishing fatty acids and trace minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc. The way it behaves on the skin is as important as what it contains.

Sesame oil is known for its ability to penetrate the superficial layers of the skin more easily, making it a trusted carrier for deeper nourishment. Used regularly as a pre-shower body oil, it supports softer, more flexible muscles and joints and a calmer, more settled nervous system over time – not as a quick fix, but as a quiet daily anchor.

What This Product Does

This oil provides dual-action support: therapeutic lubrication for the body and grounding support for the mind. It works across three key areas:

Nervous System Grounding

The warming, heavier quality of sesame oil is traditionally used as an antidote to nervous stress. A warm sesame oil massage can ease the feeling of mental overactivity and support a more restful evening wind-down and deeper sleep.

Deep Tissue Nourishment

With regular use, the body can feel more flexible and supported. Massage with sesame oil helps ease the sensation of tight, overworked muscles and joint stiffness, making it especially useful if you sit, stand, or move for long periods.

Skin & Barrier Support

Naturally rich in nourishing fatty acids (including linoleic acid), sesame oil helps soften dry, rough skin and support the skin’s natural barrier, leaving it supple, hydrated, and better protected against environmental dryness.

Key Benefits

• Helps your skin feel nourished and comfortable instead of dry, tight or “papery.”

• Takes the edge off that wired-but-tired feeling when used as a warm pre-shower massage.

• A simple way to care for stiff shoulders, lower back, and tired legs at the end of the day.

• Helps cold hands and feet feel warmer and more alive with regular use.

• Creates a small daily ritual that tells your whole system to slow down and reset.

• A go-to oil you can keep in the bathroom all year – especially supportive in cooler, windy seasons.

Who It's For

This oil may be a good fit if you:

• Have generally dry skin that drinks in oil and still feels like it needs more.

• Feel cold easily, especially in your hands, feet or lower back.

• Carry tension in your neck, shoulders or hips from work, screens or stress.

• Feel “wired but tired” and notice your body finds it hard to relax even when you stop.

• Have heard of Abhyanga and want a simple, authentic oil to start a home practice.

• Prefer a single-ingredient, traditional oil you can use for the whole family (externally).

How to Use

Always warm the oil before use and apply it as a pre-shower Abhyanga ritual, turning your shower or bath into a mind-and-body reset.

To warm the oil (do not microwave)

Place the closed bottle in a mug or bowl of hot water for a few minutes, or • Pour the amount you need into a small oil burner/warmer or heat-safe bowl and gently warm it until it feels comfortably warm to the touch.

To apply

Massage the warm oil into the body with slow, firm strokes – long strokes along the arms and legs, circular movements over the joints and abdomen.

Aim to leave the oil on for at least 10 minutes; longer (20–30 minutes) is ideal when you have time, turning your shower into a full-body reset rather than a quick rinse.

To remove

Follow with a warm shower, using a mild, non-stripping soap or body wash to gently cleanse away excess oil while leaving the skin feeling nourished, not squeaky-clean or dry. For external use only. Take care, as oil can make bathroom surfaces slippery.

Ingredients

Black Sesame (Sesamum indicum) Seed Oil 100% (Cold Pressed).

Key Functional Ingredients

Black Sesame Oil - Sesamum indicum nigrum

Sesame Oil molecules absorb quickly through the skin, into the tissue to stop inflammatory processes, make skin look and feel youthful, soft and resilient making it the very best natural conditioner for the skin. Sesame Oil penetrates to the very marrow of the bone, on the way it gathers oil soluble toxins and takes them into the bloodstream to be eliminated by the body as waste. It also neutralises oxygen radicals, which are thought to be one of the major causes of ageing.

The Seed of the Sun
In Ayurveda, sesame is no ordinary crop. Traditional stories describe the sesame plant as a child of Sūrya, the sun – standing tall in harsh light, its roots gripping the earth, its pods packed with countless tiny seeds that seem to hold warmth inside them. From those seeds comes Tila Tailam – sesame oil – often called the liquid essence of the sun: warm, steady and deeply stabilising.

This is why the classical texts crown sesame the “king of Vata-pacifying oils” and why so many traditional formulas begin with this one base.

Ayurvedic treatment often starts with Snehana – a word that means both “oleation” and “love.” The idea is simple and radical: before you correct, you soften. Before you ask the body to change, you meet it with warmth and care.

A bottle of sesame oil by the bath or shower isn’t just a skincare step; it’s a small, daily way of practising this principle. With every warm, slow stroke, you are wrapping the body in something sun-like – a quiet ritual that says to your nervous system: you can land here, you are being held.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Ayurveda is the ancient healthcare system of India. It is a Sanskrit word - Ayur means 'life' or 'daily living' and Veda means 'science'. Ayurveda then is the name given to the scientific study of life, based on the eternal principle that everyone should live in a healthy & balanced state.

The central principle of Ayurveda is that each human being has the right to live a healthy & fulfilled life (dharma), however, because of our unique body constitution, genetic inheritance and unhealthy diet & lifestyle choices, we are predisposed to certain diseases and health concerns.

Modern medicine treats symptomatically rather than looking to the root cause of the problem. This stems from the view that all people are more or less the same. Ayurveda’s special contribution is healing the cause of the symptoms by considering the uniqueness of each patient and by helping each body to heal itself.

Ayurveda has perfected healing treatments and herbal preparations to keep the physical, mental and emotional health of a person in its prime throughout life. It is contrary to the current practice of waiting until symptoms appear before getting medical help or only seeking treatment when a disease manifests.

No. In fact, there are some Ayurvedic preparations that use animal products to treat specific ailments. However, Ayurveda recognises that meat is very heavy and the stomach struggles to digest it properly. Without the addition of particular kitchen herbs to aid digestion, this undigested food can become toxic, leading to many health problems.

Also, because meat is heavy it is considered Tamasic, the qualities of which can dull the mind, making it sluggish & heavy. Ayurveda believes that a heavy & dull mind is unable to make good choices for us, which again can be the cause of many ailments.

No. While it is true that many Ayurvedic recipes use Indian ingredients, you are not required to only eat Indian food. Ayurveda gives you the understanding of the role digestion and nutrition play in creating a healthy life and how food can be used as a medicine to treat illness. This awareness can be applied to all foods. However, it is true that Ayurveda considers many of the heavily processed foods in our Western diet to be detrimental to our digestion and good health.

• Traditional Ayurvedic products target the root cause of all illness rather than treating the symptoms of disease.

• Authentic Ayurvedic products will only be a combination of pure herbs & minerals and will never contain synthetic vitamins and other substances.

• Traditional Ayurvedic products while helping to dislodge toxins from deep tissue will also assist in the rejuvenation of that tissue.

• Ayurvedic products will help to revive the intelligence to that particular system/organ or tissue that has been affected by the build up of toxins. Once all the toxins have been eliminated one doesn’t need to keep taking these products.

Ayurveda has a simple treatment plan:

• Stop the further accumulation of toxins in the body by improving digestion. Food is then “cooked” properly, preventing the build up of toxins.
• Remove accumulated toxins from the body through herbal preparations and specific Ayurvedic treatments like massage.
• Nourish the depleted tissues through diet, herbal preparations & lifestyle changes.

• Ayurveda is based on the subjective understanding of the body.

• Ayurveda aims to improve the wellbeing of everybody and does not belong to a particular country or religion.

• Treatment is based on the individual as a whole.

• It is a much more systematic & holistic approach to achieve perfect balance between mind, body & soul.

• Whatever is present in the universe, Ayurveda recognises as also being present in the human body.

• The Universe according to Ayurveda is composed of the five great elements - Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth (Known as Panchmahabhuta).

• These elements are responsible for all the living and nonliving substances in this universe.

• The human body is also composed of the five great elements

• Man is said to be the microcosm of this macrocosm

• These elements are recognised in the form of three Doshas or biological humours - Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

• The three Doshas are the intelligences behind each and every function that occurs in the body:

Air & Ether = Vata

Fire & Water = Pitta

Earth & Water = Kapha

• The Doshas govern the psycho-biological and physio-pathological changes in the body.

• Vata, Pitta and Kapha can be found in every body cell, tissue and organ.

• The level of each Dosha varies from person to person which ultimately determines an individual’s body type (Prakriti).

• It is the most eco-friendly system of medicine as it only uses materials that are natural and compatible to the body.

• Each individual has a unique bodily intelligence that has the power to keep the body in perfect health as long as this intelligence stays in balance.

• Ayurveda gives us a detailed & logical explanation of way the body, mind & soul interact.

Some people feel clearer and more confident immediately because they finally understand what’s going on. Results vary based on the chronicity and depth of the imbalance. You can often feel a shift in energy, digestion, and sleep within the first 2–4 weeks of consistently applying the recommendations. Deeper, long-term conditions may require a commitment of several months.

No. Ayurveda is a root-cause approach. Results depend on consistency, and the most meaningful changes come from steady daily practice.
