Detail

Excess Pitta rarely shows up overnight. It builds gradually as a face that flushes easily, skin that reacts to the slightest trigger, restless sleep after rich or spicy food, and a mind that can slide from focused to frustrated in a single message. Over time, it feels as if the body is carrying more heat than it can comfortably handle.

In Ayurveda, this picture is recognised as a Pitta imbalance—fire and water pushed beyond their natural balance, creating heat, irritation, and inflammation in the tissues. Pitta Massage Oil is a traditional Ayurvedic medicated oil prepared specifically for this state. A sesame oil base is gently infused with cooling herbs such as Sandalwood, Vetiver, Lotus, Liquorice, and other Pitta-balancing botanicals, using classical methods so their qualities bind to the oil and can be delivered through the skin during massage.

This is a medicated therapeutic oil, not a light cosmetic body oil. It may feel a little richer when first applied, then gradually absorb, leaving the skin soothed and the body less hot and reactive. Used regularly as part of an Abhyanga (self-massage) routine, it helps support more comfortable joints and muscles, calmer, less reactive skin, and a quieter internal “heat” over time.

What This Product Does

Helps a hot, driven system cool down and soften.

Helps draw excess heat out of the tissues

The cooling nature of herbs like Sandalwood, Vetiver, Lotus and Liquorice, combined with gentle massage, is traditionally used to help disperse heat from the skin, muscles and joints. This can be especially useful when you feel flushed, inflamed, or “burning” from the inside.

Soothes irritated, Pitta-type skin

Pitta patterns often show up as redness, sensitivity, rashes or flare-ups, particularly in summer or after stress. Regular use helps keep the skin feeling cooler, less reactive, and more comfortable.

Eases tightness and inflammation in muscles and joints

When Pitta is high, joints and muscles can feel inflamed or overworked. The medicated oil is traditionally used to support comfort in areas of heat and tension, complementing other care you may already be receiving.

Supports a calmer, less reactive mind

Pitta governs focus, ambition, and drive – but when it’s pushed, that same fire can tip into impatience, criticism, and frustration. The cooling, grounding ritual of applying this oil can help take the intensity down a notch so clarity and composure can return.

Who It's For

This oil is a good fit if you:

• Run hot – you flush easily, feel heat in your face and body, or struggle in warmer weather.

• Experience Pitta-type skin issues such as redness, irritation, eczema or rashes that flare in heat or stress.

• Notice heat or inflammation in your joints or muscles, especially after exertion or long days.

• Are prone to acid reflux, heartburn, or a “burning” feeling in the digestive tract, and want a cooling external support ritual to complement internal care.

• Describe yourself as driven, focused, and precise, but sometimes feel on edge, critical, or easily irritated.

• You know you need to cool down, but breathwork and “relax” reminders aren’t changing how hot and on edge you feel inside.

• Want a cooling, calming self-massage oil that fits into daily life, especially in warmer months or stressful seasons.

How To Use

Always warm the oil before use and apply it as a pre-shower Abhyanga ritual, turning your shower or bath into a mind-and-body reset.

To warm the oil (do not microwave)
• Place the closed bottle in a mug or bowl of hot water for a few minutes, or
• Pour the amount you need into a small oil burner/warmer or heat-safe bowl and gently warm it until it feels comfortably warm to the touch.

To apply
• Massage the warm oil into the body with slow, firm strokes – long strokes along the arms and legs, circular movements over the joints and abdomen.

Focus on the tight and cold areas – Spend extra time on places that feel cold, stiff, or overworked – lower back, hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, neck, and feet. Move slowly enough that your body can register the touch and warmth.

Aim to leave the oil on for at least 10 minutes; longer (20–30 minutes) is ideal when you have time, turning your shower into a full-body reset rather than a quick rinse.

To remove

Follow with a mild warm shower, using a mild, non-stripping soap or body wash to gently cleanse away excess oil while leaving the skin feeling nourished, not squeaky-clean or dry.

How often?

Use 2–5 times per week, and more frequently during hot weather, times of stress, or whenever Pitta symptoms (heat, irritation, redness) are more active.

Note

For external use only. This is a medicated herbal oil, not an essential or aromatic oil. Avoid contact with eyes and broken or irritated skin; discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Key Functional Ingredients

Devdaru - Cedrus deodara

Devdaru is renowned for its efficacy in managing neurological disorders, muscle and ligament pain, joint stiffness, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. In Ayurveda, it possesses energetics that are bitter, pungent, and astringent, with a hot potency and a pungent post-digestive effect (PDE). These qualities contribute to its ability to balance Vata and Kapha.

Yashti Madhu / Licorice - Glycyrrhiza glabra

Licorice is sweet and Cool, with extraordinarily healing and moisturising properties. Good for inflammatory skin conditions, it helps in controlling wrinkles and softens the tissue. According to Ayurveda it is a rejuvenator for the eyes (pacifies Vata/Pitta).

The root extracts are potent for red, acne-prone skin as well as for dull complexions and dehydrated skin. The root also contains a particular compound that works as a gentle sunscreen. It acts like a shield and protects the skin from UVA/ UVB rays to keep your skin bright and fresh forever.

Jatamansi - Nardostachys jatamansi

Jatamansi is sweet, astringent, Light and Cool. Also known as Spikenard in the west. Jatamansi contains velaranol (major chemical component of valerian root) which gives it a strong sedative action. This property makes it very useful for calming vata types. Preserves mature skin. According to Ayurveda it improves the complexion and imparts a glowing look. It is also useful in the management of skin diseases. (Tri-doshic but especially beneficial for Vata). Anointing the heart or solar plexus region provides a sedative effect.

Ayurvedic Insight

Ayurveda has a clear way of describing the “driven but on edge” pattern: it calls it a Pitta imbalance. Pitta dosha is the fire-and-water energy that drives focus, digestion, and transformation. In balance, it gives sharp thinking, strong digestion, and natural leadership. When pushed too hard, that same fire can spill over as heat in the body, redness in the skin, and a mind that tips from clear to critical.

Pitta types are often the leaders – focused, precise, organised. But when their fire burns too bright, it consumes their peace first. Classical Ayurvedic texts describe this as a rajasic mind: sharp and ambitious, but easily pulled into self-criticism, comparison, and irritation.

The body mirrors this with symptoms of excess heat – inflamed skin, burning sensations, hot joints, and a sense of being “overcooked” by life.

Pitta Massage Oil is designed with that specific pattern in mind. Cooling, heavier herbs such as Sandalwood, Vetiver, Lotus, Liquorice, and Jatamansi, in a sesame base, are traditionally chosen to bring the opposite qualities to aggravated Pitta: cool instead of hot, soft instead of inflamed, grounded instead of over-stimulated.

The herbs aren’t just there for the skin; they act as a direct message to the nervous system and tissues: stand down. Daily or regular Abhyanga with this oil becomes a ritual of self-regulation – a way for fiery ambition and clarity to coexist with a softer, more serene emotional state.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Ayurveda is the ancient healthcare system of India. It is a Sanskrit word - Ayur means 'life' or 'daily living' and Veda means 'science'. Ayurveda then is the name given to the scientific study of life, based on the eternal principle that everyone should live in a healthy & balanced state.

The central principle of Ayurveda is that each human being has the right to live a healthy & fulfilled life (dharma), however, because of our unique body constitution, genetic inheritance and unhealthy diet & lifestyle choices, we are predisposed to certain diseases and health concerns.

Modern medicine treats symptomatically rather than looking to the root cause of the problem. This stems from the view that all people are more or less the same. Ayurveda’s special contribution is healing the cause of the symptoms by considering the uniqueness of each patient and by helping each body to heal itself.

Ayurveda has perfected healing treatments and herbal preparations to keep the physical, mental and emotional health of a person in its prime throughout life. It is contrary to the current practice of waiting until symptoms appear before getting medical help or only seeking treatment when a disease manifests.

No. In fact, there are some Ayurvedic preparations that use animal products to treat specific ailments. However, Ayurveda recognises that meat is very heavy and the stomach struggles to digest it properly. Without the addition of particular kitchen herbs to aid digestion, this undigested food can become toxic, leading to many health problems.

Also, because meat is heavy it is considered Tamasic, the qualities of which can dull the mind, making it sluggish & heavy. Ayurveda believes that a heavy & dull mind is unable to make good choices for us, which again can be the cause of many ailments.

No. While it is true that many Ayurvedic recipes use Indian ingredients, you are not required to only eat Indian food. Ayurveda gives you the understanding of the role digestion and nutrition play in creating a healthy life and how food can be used as a medicine to treat illness. This awareness can be applied to all foods. However, it is true that Ayurveda considers many of the heavily processed foods in our Western diet to be detrimental to our digestion and good health.

• Traditional Ayurvedic products target the root cause of all illness rather than treating the symptoms of disease.

• Authentic Ayurvedic products will only be a combination of pure herbs & minerals and will never contain synthetic vitamins and other substances.

• Traditional Ayurvedic products while helping to dislodge toxins from deep tissue will also assist in the rejuvenation of that tissue.

• Ayurvedic products will help to revive the intelligence to that particular system/organ or tissue that has been affected by the build up of toxins. Once all the toxins have been eliminated one doesn’t need to keep taking these products.

Ayurveda has a simple treatment plan:

• Stop the further accumulation of toxins in the body by improving digestion. Food is then “cooked” properly, preventing the build up of toxins.
• Remove accumulated toxins from the body through herbal preparations and specific Ayurvedic treatments like massage.
• Nourish the depleted tissues through diet, herbal preparations & lifestyle changes.

• Ayurveda is based on the subjective understanding of the body.

• Ayurveda aims to improve the wellbeing of everybody and does not belong to a particular country or religion.

• Treatment is based on the individual as a whole.

• It is a much more systematic & holistic approach to achieve perfect balance between mind, body & soul.

• Whatever is present in the universe, Ayurveda recognises as also being present in the human body.

• The Universe according to Ayurveda is composed of the five great elements - Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth (Known as Panchmahabhuta).

• These elements are responsible for all the living and nonliving substances in this universe.

• The human body is also composed of the five great elements

• Man is said to be the microcosm of this macrocosm

• These elements are recognised in the form of three Doshas or biological humours - Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

• The three Doshas are the intelligences behind each and every function that occurs in the body:

Air & Ether = Vata

Fire & Water = Pitta

Earth & Water = Kapha

• The Doshas govern the psycho-biological and physio-pathological changes in the body.

• Vata, Pitta and Kapha can be found in every body cell, tissue and organ.

• The level of each Dosha varies from person to person which ultimately determines an individual’s body type (Prakriti).

• It is the most eco-friendly system of medicine as it only uses materials that are natural and compatible to the body.

• Each individual has a unique bodily intelligence that has the power to keep the body in perfect health as long as this intelligence stays in balance.

• Ayurveda gives us a detailed & logical explanation of way the body, mind & soul interact.

Some people feel clearer and more confident immediately because they finally understand what’s going on. Results vary based on the chronicity and depth of the imbalance. You can often feel a shift in energy, digestion, and sleep within the first 2–4 weeks of consistently applying the recommendations. Deeper, long-term conditions may require a commitment of several months.

No. Ayurveda is a root-cause approach. Results depend on consistency, and the most meaningful changes come from steady daily practice.
